Monday Morning Prayer

June 26, 2017

Do you ever wonder how you should pray for someone? Maybe they’re not in the midst of a crisis needing persistent intercession – or maybe they are.

Do you ever wonder if your prayers are biblical? Are you praying for the right things in the right way?

Paul instructs the Ephesian church about God’s amazing plan of salvation, and then he writes:

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

This prayer doesn’t stand alone. It’s because of the great work of God in salvation that Paul prays this way. “For this reason…” Because of all that God has already done, already promised, already secured that Paul can pray boldly with such amazing requests.

“…that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being…” – Read that again.

  • According to the riches of his glory – which are far greater than we can comprehend and unlimited.
  • To be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being – inner strength to give us wisdom, discernment, fortitude, knowledge, perseverance, love, joy, patience – the fruit of the Spirit.
  •  that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith – take up residence, give direction for your decisions.
  • that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge – to understand the full extent of Christ’s love for you, regardless of what happens, what people say or do to you.
  • that you may be filled with all the fullness of God – think of that! The God of the Bible with all his attributes and power filling you, guiding you, directing you through the day!

Wouldn’t it be fantastic to know that someone was praying like that for you every day – not just on Mondays?
